How To Make a Long Distance Relationship Last

Long relationships are notoriously considered to be the type of relationship which simply doesn’t last. Over the years there have been all kinds of people from different walks of life who have been forced to live out their relationship and it almost always ends in tears.

In spite of the history, there have also been a lot of people who have been able to make a long distance relationship last, think of the soldiers in the World Wars for example, they always came back to their partner. If you are considering a long distance relationship, here is what you will need to do in order to make it last.

Trust

If you don’t trust your partner, then you will never make a long distance relationship work. Trust is vital given the fact that you are spending a long time away from each other and if you don’t have this, your mind can play games with you that can lead to suspicion of your partner. Before you decide to go long distance with your boyfriend or girlfriend, first you need to learn to trust them.

Regular Contact

As part of making the relationship work, you need to have regular contact with them via messaging and phone calls. Just think about how much time you are spending apart compared to how much time you would be spending with one another if you were together. You must find a way to replace this time that you are not spending together and regular contact is the best way to do it. These days we are fortunate enough to be able to use video calling services such as Skype and Zoom which enables us to see our partner whilst we are talking to them.

An End Game

It is really important that both you and your partner are aware that this relationship will only be long term for a limited period of time. No relationship can survive an extremely long time apart and there should be something for you both to look forward to. This may mean sacrifices on both parts and you must be prepared to make those sacrifices for the good of the relationship.

Stages

If you are able to, breaking down the long distance relationship into manageable stages is a great idea and you should endeavor to see one another at least every 3 months. Physical contact is something which is vital to any relationship and it is not something that you can replace when it is not there. One way or another, you must find out ways in which you can still see each other, even if it just for a short time.

Strength

The final part to ensuring that your long distance relationship works is by being strong. Without the strength to keep going and be patient until you can be together again, you will really struggle. As well as your own strength, you must also be strong for the other person when they are feeling weak.

It may be a long road but if you love each other and you want to spend your life with your partner, you will manage just fine.
